The cyber battle is raging, and we need to arrive equipped and ready to face our opponents. How do we get there? It’s more than just having the latest and greatest technology, because hackers have that, too. Instead, we need to increase the number of cyber warriors in the field, equipping them with the weapons and knowledge necessary to anticipate threats. We also need to provide them with the advanced skills needed to successfully execute a counterattack and shut down the schemes of the cybercriminal.

Cybersecurity Ventures is predicting that there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity positions by 2021, and women represent only 20% of the global cybersecurity workforce. With this mounting gap in cybersecurity professionals, we need to take the initiative to continually train and educate our technical teams to improve their ability to prevent, detect and respond to cyber attacks.

How do we do that? Here are three things you can do to shrink the gap and ultimately protect your business and your customers’ businesses:

  1. Equip your customers with knowledge by selling immersive cybersecurity training courses and workshops that will provide the experience they need to fight tomorrow’s threats today.

  2. Test out the latest cybersecurity vendor solutions. There are a lot of options out there to try. Spend time testing out the most advanced technology to best suit your customers’ needs.

  3. Enable your technical team to develop specific knowledge and skills to battle cyberattacks in a safe and secure environment. Gain hands-on experience through cyber challenges designed to test and strengthen your skills as you learn.

The best cyber warriors out there understand not only the business operations and how cybersecurity fits into the greater needs of the organization, but also how to articulate that well. That is why Tech Data feels it is obligated to address the cybersecurity skills gap by providing an intensive training resource to our channel partners and its customers to help further educate and equip cyber talent to become even more skilled and sophisticated cyber warriors to detect and defeat cyber attacks.

Tech Data is the first distributor to host a cyber range for use by the channel. What distinguishes our range from others is the hands-on nature of the education our attendees receive. The ability to “touch and feel” cybersecurity helps attendees quickly gain high competency while also providing practical skills they can immediately use in the workforce. The interactive nature of the Tech Data Cyber Range also fosters a fundamentally deeper understanding of the “why” of cybersecurity.

In addition to various training opportunities, the Tech Data security team will empower channel partners–regardless of their level of cybersecurity expertise and experience–to blend elements from the latest cybersecurity technologies and offerings to help optimize an organization’s cybersecurity posture, minimize risk and investment, and ultimately maximize profit.
