Cloudera, Amazon Collaborate on Hadoop Services on AWS

Cloudera and Amazon (AMZN) Web Services (AWS) are collaborating to bring Cloudera Enterprise deployments to AWS. The collaboration between the two companies will mean the launch of Cloudera’s brand of Apache Hadoop offerings on AWS.

In addition to launching Cloudera Enterprise on Amazon’s public cloud service, Cloudera also has launched a certification program of its cloud service on AWS.

For Amazon and its customers, this will means more choice when deploying onto the AWS cloud. Cloudera Enterprise is billed as a enterprise data hub, and it provides end users with analytics and data management capabilities that the company claims are at a fraction of the cost of traditional Big Data analytics and management models.

“While on-premises data management deployments continue to be an option for some enterprises, others prefer the flexibility and economics of the cloud. A data management solution shouldn’t dictate where and how they store their data—the solution should go to the data,” said Tim Stevens, vice president of Corporate and Business Development at Cloudera, in a prepared statement. “Enterprises can deploy and operate a comprehensive, fully operational enterprise data hub in the cloud, which provides powerful, flexible, scalable and cost-efficient data storage, processing and analytics.”

Many see Hadoop as the next big thing in cloud and Big Data. There is an increasing amount of interest in Hadoop among enterprises.
