Centrify was founded in 2004 by Tom Kemp, Adam Au and Paul Moore to provide unified identity services across data center, cloud, and mobile for organizations. In 2005, the company expanded its portfolio from one product to a suite of software, opening up various mobile and cloud opportunities for organizations. What does Kemp think of potential retirement? The answer may not surprise you.
KEMP: I think my last concert was a few years back at an investment bank’s Tech Conference where I was a speaker, and as part of the evening entertainment they had the B-52s play a concert for the attendees at a small club near by. Most of the banker types were too young to even know who the B-52s were, so sparsely attended, but as a big B-52s fan from my high school days, it was awesome for me to be right next to the stage.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: I believe I fit into the “young bankers” category with regards to musical taste, not mathematical expertise.
KEMP: My wife and I are introducing our eldest daughter to Jane Austen this summer, so besides her reading the books, we just watched the BBC version of Sense & Sensibility and before that the A&E version of Pride & Prejudice. The last movie I saw in the theater was The Hobbit.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Pride and Prejudice is on my summer reading list, but now you’ve given me an easy way out with a mini-series — must fight temptation.
KEMP: Who buys albums anymore? I think the last one was “Best of Marshall Crenshaw.”
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Ouch. Next time I’ll be sure to add “digital” before the word “album” to satisfy all the Friday’s Last Word critics out there.
KEMP: I totally dug Downton Abbey because it was a soap opera presented as a period piece, and thought the acting was terrific.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Season four will be premiering in January.
KEMP: Centrify is really pioneering integrating mobile management with cloud and identity management, thereby providing a complete solution for not only single sign-on from any device and from anywhere, but also for giving IT visibility into who’s accessing what, irrespective of the device.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Centrify recently announced it will launch a version of its Active Directory management and single sign-on (SSO) solution specifically for Microsoft (MSFT) Office 365.
KEMP: After 14 years of watching an old clunker of a TV that weighs literally hundreds of pounds, just bought my first flat screen TV – a Samsung. Our IT department just also bought me a Samsung S4. You can tell Centrify just did a strategic partnership with Samsung by my choice of devices.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: To review: Samsung was mentioned three times in your answer, once in my response, and the image to the left of this paragraph also includes the company’s name. That’s a true partnership.
KEMP: TeamSnap for tracking schedules and player availability for both of my daughters’ softball teams.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: As a society, we’ve come a long way with our little league organizational skills.
KEMP: None.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: You really gave me no material to work with.
KEMP: None.
