HP’s cloud-based big data analytics strategy continues to take shape. The latest news out of Palo Alto is the launch of HP Haven OnDemand, the cloud services version of the company’s Haven big data analytics technology.
It’s a big step for HP, as the cloud version of Haven was first announced in 2013 and was designed to be an entry point for customers. Now with Haven OnDemand, the technology is taking more of a front and center place in HP’s strategy for big data analytics in the cloud.
Within HP OnDemand are two main components:
HP IDOL OnDemand provides developers, partners and customers with big data services to build next-generation apps for analyzing a variety of data types — from images and video to social media and text. This is something for developers to pay close attention to, as it will provide them with several tools for analytics. According to HP, it has already signed on more than 5,000 customers.
HP Vertica OnDemand is a new service that provides analytics capabilities that HP claims are easy to use. According to the company, organizations can get Vertica OnDemand up and running in a matter of minutes. But it’s not quite ready for prime time yet. Expect it — and its managed virtual private cloud version — to be available in the next quarter. Pricing will start at $999 per month.

As noted by Data Center Knowledge, Haven OnDemand is capable of analyzing a variety of data, including business and machine data, as well as unstructured information.
Haven runs on HP’s Helion cloud infrastructure offering.
