Hewlett-Packard continues to piece together a small business managed services strategy for VARs and MSPs. The latest HP move involves a storage partnership with LPI Level Platforms Inc., the remote monitoring and management (RMM) specialist. Here are some details.Specifically, Level Platforms‘ Managed Workplace software is now available on the HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault Series. According to a joint press release from HP and Level Platforms, the solution allows MSPs to remotely monitor and manage all small business IT including desktop PCs, laptops, printers, VoIP, routers, switches, hosted cloud applications, as well as the Data Vault. The target market is small businesses with fewer than 10 PCs.
HP has made multiple managed services moves in recent months. They include:
Promoting two HP-developed platforms — Insight Remote Support and 48upper — to MSPs.
Building four strategic partnerships in the managed print services market.
Still, it seems like HP is learning to walk in the small business managed services market. During the April 2010 HP Americas Partner Conference, HP focused mostly on product-centric sales rather than MSP-centric opportunities. But it sounds like new HP Channel Chief Stephen DiFranco — a Lenovo veteran — plans to increasingly emphasis recurring revenue opportunities in the months ahead.
