Some Microsoft (MSFT) channel partners who previously didn’t have the ability to offer their customers the Surface tablets now can, according to Microsoft. At its annual Worldwide Partner Conference, the technology stalwart announced plans to expand the Surface channel, continuing its phased approach to bring Surface to resellers.

Solution providers worried about their place in this brave new world of cloud services can rest easy: Customers need the channel as much as ever. That’s the result of a survey conducted by IDC and Microsoft (MSFT), which looked at the importance of solution providers by customers. The findings were revealed during the third day of Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in Orlando.

Mobile device maker BlackBerry (BBRY) has hired Carl Wiese, a 30-year IT sales and marketing veteran and ex-Cisco (CSCO) global collaboration senior vice president, to preside over its worldwide sales efforts, replacing John Sims who had served in a similar role since December, 2013.
