CenturyLink Cloud Adds Pay-by-the-Hour Managed Services

CenturyLink has introduced on-demand managed services for its cloud platform.

The communications giant says businesses now can choose managed services – including Web servers, middleware, directory services and database applications, along with operating systems – with cloud utility ease and pay-by-the-hour billing.

With the new cloud-based managed services, CenturyLink says businesses can enjoy more agility and less management burden of managed applications and operating systems in an on-demand model.

"One-click access to managed services delivers our expert management resources in a new way, providing customers with extraordinary flexibility," said Jared Wray, chief technology officer, CenturyLink Cloud. "As cloud adoption evolves and enterprises pursue new and easier ways to manage their IT infrastructure, the time is right in the industry for an optimized experience that brings cloud together with expert managed services."

While the company will integrate its entire portfolio of managed hosting services into the CenturyLink Cloud platform, the initial launch debuts eight services: Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux managed operating systems, as well as managed applications Active Directory, Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, Microsoft Internet Information Services, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.

CenturyLink says these new capabilities allow businesses to turn to a single provider for public cloud infrastructure, managed services and support for advanced hybrid networking scenarios.

These services will be available starting June 30 through CenturyLink Cloud nodes in Santa Clara, California; and Sterling, Virginia; with more managed services and locations in Europe and Asia enabled later this year.
