CTERA Launches Mobile App for Secure File Access
April 4, 2012
Cloud storage enablement firm CTERA Networks has launched its CTERA Mobile app, which allows clients to access files and backups from any device. I spoke by phone with CTERA VP of Marketing Rani Osnat, who was in London attending the 2012 Hosting & Cloud Transformation Summit Europe, about the app, which is designed for both Apple iOS and Android and free to all CTERA users.
In the release announcing the app, CTERA CEO Liran Eshel noted, “Business users have grown accustomed to accessing information anywhere, anytime, on any device. CTERA’s new mobile app makes this possible for even the most security-conscious enterprises.” He also said CTERA views this capability as “an important addition that complements our solution’s comprehensive capabilities in data protection, file sharing and cloud on-ramping, all aimed at accelerating cloud storage usage.”
CTERA, which works exclusively through channel partners, focuses on the SMB space “or with distributed enterprises, (that have) many different sites and remote users, which applies to a pretty wide range of enterprises,” Osnat said. The company’s goal with the mobile is to not only offer full mobile access with greater security but also “offer users a more secure alternative. [Users] are expecting to have access to files on any device. The concern that businesses have around this is security, whether or not the service is secure. So … we enable them to have the service as part of (something) they control, that is more secure not only in terms of where the files are stored, but also in terms of the actual technology behind it.”
What’s more, he said, CTERA partners can apply their own label to the mobile app. “A reseller can also make the mobile app their own brand. So we have partners who are already using this app, who have branded it as well. It can appear as the CTERA app or their own app.”
