Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) is getting more social with channel partners. The company’s TechCenter website, which attracts more than 350,000 unique visitors per month, now offers a dedicated social media area for PartnerDirect members. Dell is also hinting that its online community will soon offer more social media training to partners. The moves come at a critical time. Here’s why.

Dell is currently negotiating with at least three potential suitors, each of which hopes to acquire the computer company through a private equity deal. Amid those negotiations, Dell needs to assure channel partners that it remains committed to the PartnerDirect program.

That’s where Dell’s social media and community strategies enter the picture. According to a Dell blog, the new TechCenter PartnerDirect Community includes:

  • A community forum, where partners can interact with one another as they pose questions, share best practices and offer advice.

  • Education, including weekly TechChats to interact with Dell engineers and product designers.

Dell believes the community will inspire partners to build and recommend a range of solutions for end-customers.

No doubt, Dell also hopes the community inspires partner loyalty amid the current M&A negotiations as well.
