Distribution Watch: Tech Data, Synnex, Avnet

Hey there, all you VARs out in cyberspace, and welcome to another edition of Distribution Watch. It was a busy week with both Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Cisco Systems (CSCO) holding their annual partner conferences in fabulous Las Vegas, which yielded some awesome news for our distributor friends. This week, we’ve got the latest and greatest new from Tech Data (TD), Synnex (SNX) and Avnet (AVT). Let’s get this party started!

Tech Data: Tech Data took home the gold with two new accolades this week, as the company was named Global Distributor of the Year and U.S. Distributor of the Year at Cisco’s (CSCO) World Partner Summit 2014 in Las Vegas. The company was recognized for by Cisco for its channel innovations, unique enablement programs, business performance and profitable growth.

"We are honored to be recognized as Cisco's Global and U.S. Distributor of the Year," said Bob Dutkowsky, chief executive officer at Tech Data, in a prepared statement. "Cisco has been a valued partner for more than 18 years, and the past year has been particularly successful in our strategic relationship. These awards are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our team throughout the world to execute and innovate on behalf of our vendor partners while enabling the success of our customers. As Tech Data celebrates its 40th year, we thank Cisco for their ongoing partnership and look forward to continued success together."

According to Cisco, Tech Data earned its highest distinction due to the distibutor's ability to leverage its ecosystem to capture new market opportunities and capitalize on strategic business objectives.

"Cisco is privileged to work alongside the most talented channel partners in the industry, and we remain committed to our partners' success," said Edison Peres, senior vice president, Worldwide Channels at Cisco. "We are honored to award Tech Data both the Global and U.S. Distributor of the Year and acknowledge their outstanding achievements."

Synnex: The global distributor announced a new deal with SMB data backup and recovery firm Carbonite (CARB) to distribute the company’s portfolio of data recovery software. With the new agreement, Synnex will distribute Carbonite’s portfolio to its extensive reseller base. Synnex is one of only three companies to sign a distribution agreement with Carbonite.

"We are pleased to bring Carbonite into our growing family of cloud services hosted by SYNNEX CLOUDSolv," said Bob Stegner, senior vice president of Marketing, North America at SYNNEX, in a prepared statement. "Carbonite enhances the SYNNEX cloud platform by giving resellers the ability to meet the increasing demand for cloud services and data protection to help securely grow their businesses with an affordable and easy to use offering."?

Avnet: The company was recognized with an HP PartnerOne Award for Growth Distributor of the Year Canada, HP Enterprise Group at the 2014 HP Global Partner Conference. According to HP, Avnet earned the award for its performance and strong year-over-year HP revenue growth in Canada.

"This award is the culmination of our team's alignment with the HP PartnerOne program to help our solution provider partners accelerate their revenue growth and profitability around HP software and hardware," said Brian Aebig, vice president and general manager, Avnet Technology Solutions, Canada, in a prepared statement. "I applaud our team for their dedication to developing the tools, training and resources needed to help our HP partners capture opportunities in high-growth technology and vertical market industries, such as converged infrastructure solutions, Big Data, analytics and health care. Winning in today's highly competitive market requires the combined efforts of companies at each step in the IT supply chain, and today's award is a reflection of this success."
