Docker is adjusting its operational structure by adding three leadership positions to its open-source container project.

These new roles — prompted by company growth — include chief architect, chief maintainer and chief operator. According to the San Francisco-based company, it now has more than 740 project contributors, more than 20,000 projects and more than 85,000 Dockerized applications under its belt.

Solomon Hykes, founder of Docker, will step into the chief architect role, where he will oversee the project’s direction. Hykes was previously responsible for overseeing architecture, operations and technical maintenance of the project. He will also continue as CTO of the company.

Michael Crosby, who has been serving as a project maintainer already, will take on the chief maintainer position. In his new role, Crosby will in charge of all aspects of quality for the project. This includes code reviews, usability, stability, security, performance and more.

Docker appointed Steve Francia to the chief operator role, where he will be responsible for running the project’s day-to-day operations. He will also be in charge of managing and evaluating the success of the project. Previously, Francia served as MongoDB’s chief developer advocate.

“The Docker project is thriving through a level of unparalleled growth and expectations and to continue to reach new heights we needed to evolve our structure,” Hykes said in a statement. “A structure that creates the opportunity for additional world-class talent to join the team to help us as we support and grow our community.”
