Rosendahl: BottleRock Napa Valley
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Beer, wine and music? Yes, please. The lineup for last year's festival looked awesome (including No Doubt, pictured above). I wonder what 2016 will bring.
Rosendahl: Cowspiracy
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Leonard DiCaprio produced this 2014 documentary that explores the effects of cattle on the environment.
Rosendahl: Toyota Tundra
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Growing up, my family always had a Toyota. Those things run forever!
Rosendahl: Game of Thrones
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Still haven't seen it (I know, I know). I think I'll give it a try over the holidays!
Rosendahl: “The Hard Things About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: This is the second time this book has made it in a Friday's Last Word. ZeroStack CEO Ajay Gulati also read the book recently.
Rosendahl: A Jabra USB conference speakerphone
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: This sleek little guy is portable and rechargeable, designed to let users take their "conference room anywhere." Seems like a cool holiday gift for the gadget lover on your list.
Rosendahl: Hibiki Japanese whiskey
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Guess Forbes was right when it said in 2013 that Japanese whiskey was going to be the next big thing.
Rosendahl: AC/DC's 1977 album Let There Be Rock
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: This album was the first AC/DC record to make the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 154 in October 1977.
Rosendahl: Copenhagen/Prague/Tirol/Berlin with the family this past summer
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: Sounds like an awesome trip that would have racked up some frequent flyer miles!
Rosendahl: Be My Eyes, a crowd sourcing app for the blind and volunteers
Talkin' Cloud's Spin: This open source app is seriously cool. Here's how it works: a blind person requests assistance via the app, then a volunteer helper receives notification of the request. From there, a video connection is established and the volunteer can help the blind user.

Friday's Last Word: Akanda CEO Henrik Rosendahl
Henrik Rosendahl is the CEO of Akanda, the main contributor of the recently launched OpenStack network orchestration platform, Project Astara. Rosendahl has led Akanda since the company’s founding in 2014. A veteran of enterprise software, Rosendahl was previously the co-founder of CloudVolumes (a virtualization company acquired by VMware in 2014). In all, he has four successful exits including Pancetera Software (to Quantum), Thinstall (also to VMware), and Interse A/S (to ScanJour A/S). Rosendahl also invests and advises startups, including Be My Eyes and Lua. He lives in the Bay Area.
More about Akanda:
Akanda spun out of DreamHost, which was using the network virtualization technology in its own OpenStack cloud platform. The Akanda team brings together business and technical leaders with deep networking and virtualization backgrounds, including CTO Mark McClain who served as the project team leader for OpenStack Neutron, the top industry choice for 89% of OpenStack networks currently in production. Collectively, Akanda’s founders have sold two virtualization startups to VMware and one storage startup – Inktank – to Red Hat.
What are your plans for Akanda in 2016?
We want to continue to make multi-vendor cloud management easier by using open source software to manage some of the world’s largest OpenStack data centers. There’s a need for more simplified OpenStack networking, and that’s where our focus will be. We also expect to expand our partnerships in 2016.
