Friday's Last Word: DreamHost CEO Simon Anderson
DreamHost CEO Simon Anderson brings years of experience of managing teams across most major business functions, including marketing, sales, product, operations and engineering, to the cloud computing services provider. But what's Anderson's take on Taylor Swift? Take a look at this Last Word exclusive.
DreamHost CEO Simon Anderson joined the company in 2011, bringing years of experience of managing teams across most major business functions, including marketing, sales, product, operations and engineering, to the cloud computing services provider, as well as leadership skills from working with startups. What does Anderson like to do when he’s not in his office? We’ll reveal the answers.
ANDERSON: Taylor Swift! I took my 7 year old daughter and two of her friends to the sold out concert at Staples Center in Los Angeles, and she rocked the house. Some people critique her music, but I think she’s got a way with words!
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Her lyrics can be rather catchy, and she’s just at the beginning.
ANDERSON: Despicable Me 2, with you know who (again). Gru is one of the best evil-turned-reluctant-goodguy characters in animated 3D. And if you read the end credits, it was originally a French story, so I got in a foreign film too.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Touché.
ANDERSON: DreamCon. Our first ever DreamHost user conference complete with a visit by LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, presentations by WordPress creator Matt Mullenweg and talented DreamHost team members, and a night-time flouro ping-pong free play event at the Standard Hotel across the road.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Be sure to keep the Nine Lives Media team informed of your next conference.
ANDERSON: No contest. Game of Thrones. “I am the watcher on the Wall” and all that. I read all the books too, and am waiting for the last one to be finished.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: This show seems to be popular among CEOs in the channel, not as popular as Star Trek, but it’s getting there.
ANDERSON: “The Emerald Mile,” an epic non-fiction account of the fastest “dory” boat crew that paddled the Grand Canyon in high water, at night to start, and broke the record. The book is a sweeping narrative of the 277 mile canyon and those who tried to tame it (conservationists and dam builders alike), from Spanish explorers, to Major Powell, to the modern day. Intense read.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: I’ve heard and seen nothing but good reviews.
ANDERSON: A boring Verizon MiFi Personal Hotspot, attempting to get better bandwidth than my tethered phone while on the road – mostly unsuccessfully. Some of my team at DreamHost have Pebble programmable watches, so that’s next.
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: There’s no such thing as a “boring gadget” — okay, maybe that was a lie.
ANDERSON: Being honest, I have to say Google.com (or more correctly the browser search bar), to do a fact check and spelling check of the proper nouns mentioned in my answers!
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: Google owns us all, apparently.
ANDERSON: San Diego for 3 days, when my parents were visiting from Australia. You can’t beat the sun, beach, restaurants and access to museums on the water (Maritime Museum) and in Balboa Park. What a great, livable city!
TALKIN CLOUD’s SPIN: A city I’m still waiting to see.
