GenieDB is pushing ahead into the Amazon Web Services (AWS) space with its database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering. Not only has the company joined the AWS Partner Network, but it has also launched its GenieDB Globally Distributed MySQL-as-a-Service offering into the AWS Marketplace.
With the launch on Amazon (AMZN), GenieDB is aiming to make it easier for organizations to use its automated platform to build web-scale applications for geo-distribution benefits, as well as continuous availability during regional outages and better application response time for globally distributed users. The company is taking advantage of Amazon’s globally distributed cloud data centers.
“AWS has an expansive infrastructure with data centers around the world,” said Cary Breese, CEO of GenieDB, in a prepared statement. “Coupling this with GenieDB’s ability to knit together a geographical distributed MySQL data layer lets companies of any size build reliable applications. Additionally, GenieDB’s benefits of geo-distribution means that companies can deliver local application response time to end users anywhere in the world.”
GenieDB is hoping its launch into the AWS cloud space will help end customers eliminate their collective need to build expensive and complex distributed databases. And for AWS partners, this could provide a solution to a common problem. The goal of GenieDB’s MySQL storage engine plug-in is to provide easy distribution across regions, giving applications uninterrupted availability while delivering local performance to all users.
“The GenieDB service has helped our SaaS product stand out from the crowd,” said Rob Giffin, CTO of Avalution Consulting, in a prepared statement. “True multi-master database replication, synchronization across regions, auto-healing functionality and the simplicity of the service make it more powerful than any other offering available. It’s a silver bullet for multi-region availability.”
The GenieDB DBaaS offering on AWS is now available.
