IBM has launched a new cloud resiliency center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, to provide enterprises with business continuity capabilities in the cloud to protect from natural disasters, cybercrime and other unexpected things that can knock a business out of commission.
Front and center in this announcement is mobile money player Monitise, which is the first mobile-centric technology provider that has signed on as a customer for the new cloud resiliency center. The company is using Big Blue's cloud infrastructure for security to establish a highly flexible, bank-grade architecture to deliver uninterrupted service to its customers.
Or that's the plan, anyway. Monitise indicated the importance of being always on and available, so it's a tall order that IBM's cloud resiliency center will need to fill. And part of the way the center aims to make that possible is by promising the ability to recover apps from a disaster within minutes.
"The work we're doing with Monitise at this new cloud resiliency center is a strong testament to IBM partnerships with enterprise clients to drive new innovation," said Mike Errity, vice president of IBM Business Continuity and Resiliency Services, in a prepared statement. "By creating a new benchmark for delivering client continuity services in hybrid, public and private cloud environments, we meet the demands of businesses required to serve the around the clock needs of their clients."
The cloud resiliency center integrates cloud and traditional disaster recovery capabilities with physical security features. IBM aims to reduce recovery times of 24 to 48 hours down to mere minutes. That's huge for enterprises, particularly always-on businesses such as those playing in the mobile space.
The center's team monitors developing disaster events and then mobilizes as needed to ensure customers are able to recover from a disaster quickly should the worst happen.
