Leading Together
2,000 attendees met up at Cisco Partner Summit 2018 in Las Vegas. For 15 percent of them, this latest event was their 10th or more, demonstrating the value of the event. Almost one-quarter were first timers and two-thirds of attendees have been a Cisco partner for a dozen or more years.
Cisco's New Global Channel Chief
In his event debut, Oliver Tuszik, senior vice president, global partner organization, introduced himself and a strategic 12-month road map for partners. He dubbed the strategy "Perform and Transform," meaning partners need to run their business day-to-day while planning to align with Cisco's transformation strategy. Partners have one year to decide their fate with Cisco.
The New Cisco Customer Experience Strategy
Cisco's lead for its customer-experience (CX) strategy is Maria Martinez, executive vice president and chief customer experience officer. The CX organizations are responsible for helping customers transform their businesses through Cisco's broad portfolio of software, subscriptions and service offerings.
Here, Martinez talks about the CX Lifecycle First timeline.
DevNet
DevNet is about Cisco partners differentiating with software — more specifically, IP. The Cisco DevNet community has more than a half-million members, and Cisco wants more partners to create their own IP. Those who engage with DevNet are growing their business a full 10 percentage points faster than those who don't.
Private Pods
Cisco Partner Summit was about succeeding together. Some partners sought refuge with other partners in these private pods where they could focus on how to join forces to grow their businesses.
Cisco Umbrella
Cisco's cloud-delivered enterprise security now offers more integrations for branch offices and Wi-Fi networks. Integrations include: Cisco SD-WAN; Meraki MR; and App Discovery and blocking.
Huddle Spaces
Cisco has beefed up its Huddle Spaces with more collaboration features. Sri Srinivasan, vice president and general manager, Team Collaboration Group, introduced three new products: Webex Share, Webex Room Mini Kit and Webex Board 55.
Global Partner Award Winners
Cisco went all "Las Vegas" with a song-and-dance performance as it announced 22 award recipients, recognized for performance, innovation and business growth.
Bell Canada picked up the Americas Theatre Partner of the Year award, Verizon was awarded the Service Provider Partner of the Year, and Presidio Networked Solutions won the Enterprise Partner of the Year award.

Another year, another partner conference – right? Not quite.
Cisco Partner Summit – with the theme “Leading Together” – the vendor presented strong messaging about its transition strategy from its hardware roots to software. The 2,000 partners in attendance got to meet some new additions to the Cisco family and heard from some old familiar ones. Others, like Wendy Bahr, former channel lead, were gone.
Oliver Tuszik, the company’s new senior vice president, global partner organization, made his event debut with partners, introducing himself and a strategic 12-month road map for partners.
Attendees also learned about a reworking of the company’s sales and marketing organization; a new go-to-market strategy including a significant and comprehensive customer experience (CX) strategy; and new campaign — The Bridge to Possible.
There were also new product introductions: an end-to-end, secure SD-WAN platform; new Catalyst 9000 switches; and the beefing up of Cisco’s collaboration portfolio.
