iMedicor has unveiled iCoreMD, a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) system.

Windermere, Fla.-based healthcare communications solutions provider iMedicor yesterday unveiled iCoreMD, its first cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) system.

iCoreMD is a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant (HIPAA-compliant) EHR system that is designed to “make management of healthcare delivery more efficient,” iMedicor said.

“Our customers continued to tell us that the ‘one-size-fits-all’ EHR systems available in the marketplace today were not serving their needs. They were too cumbersome or did not provide specific functionality required for a specific medical discipline. iMedicor has responded with iCoreMD,” iMedicor CEO Robert McDermott said in a prepared statement.

McDermott told Talkin’ Cloud that iCoreMD gives users the ability to build the EHR system they want without having to worry about development costs.

iCoreMD features:

  • Customization options

  • Electronic claims processing

  • Electronic prescription functionality

  • Patient scheduling with notifications

  • Rules-based clinical decision-making algorithms

“We believe, based on discussions with customers, that we have built a comprehensive product with substantial marketplace demand,” the company added.

What are the benefits of a cloud-based EHR system?

The healthcare cloud market is expected to grow over the next several years, and the demand for cloud-based EHR systems could rise accordingly.

Numerous cloud-based EHR solutions are available in addition to iCoreMD, including CareCloud‘s Charts and HealthFusion‘s MediTouch.

Randy Van Egdom, a partner at EHR software provider AdventEMO, points out a cloud-based EHR system is sometimes a better choice than server-based options for several reasons:

  • Better security

  • Cost savings

  • Improved efficiency

  • Increased scalability

Van Egdom also noted cloud-based EHR systems are likely to “rule the healthcare industry” for years to come.

“Cloud-based EHR systems will rule the healthcare industry in the days to come as they are more secure, flexible, scalable, accessible and affordable and can be used by practices of all sizes,” he said.
