LANDesk Software has acquired Wavelink — a mobile device management (MDM) company that supports Google Android, Apple iOS and BlackBerry devices. Wavelink claims its solution manages more than 7 million mobile devices — smartphones, tablets and more — across 15,000 companies. The LANDesk-Wavelink deal continues a trend of MDM buyouts to address the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend.

The Wavelink deal is LANDesk's second acquisition of 2012, its first being Managed Planet back in April. LANDesk has also been pushing deeper into the MSP partner market this year.

Although MDM is a hot trend, MSPmentor believes standalone MDM platforms will ultimately disappear — swallowed by large enterprise IT management software companies or integrated into RMM (remote monitoring and management) software platforms. Most of the major RMM software companies have introduced or are preparing MDM capabilities.

LANDesk provides IT end user management software, including systems lifecycle management, endpoint security, enterprise mobility and IT service management solutions.LANDesk partner program information is here.
