Managed Print Services Market Growing 20 Percent Annually?
November 16, 2011
The managed print services market will grow 20 percent annually from 2010 through 2015, growing the total market opportunity to about $78 billion, predicts Photizo Group, which closely tracks the MPS market. MSPmentor is always a bit wary of market research. But generally speaking, MSPmentor believes managed print services remains a growth opportunity for MSPs.
Still, it’s important to keep market research in perspective. Even if the managed print services market truly was a $78 billion opportunity, most of those dollars involve big vendors selling direct to big customers. And MSPmentor suspects the dollar figures include lots of up-front hardware payments from big customers to big printer makers.
So how much money is actually on the table for MSPs? That’s difficult to say but the market certainly is growing. Photizo Group claims:
Xerox/Fuji Xerox leads all MPS providers in global market share
Hewlett-Packard (HP) leads all MPS providers in North American market share
Still, big vendors and software companies increasingly promote managed print services through the channel. Oki Data attended last week’s IT Nation conference in Orlando, Fla., to describe managed print opportunities to VARs and MSPs. And ConnectWise CEO Arnie Bellini described how ConnectWise and LabTech Software will help MSPs with managed print services. Meanwhile, Photizo Group predicts that almost half of all global print revenue will be under MPS contract by 2014.
However, only about 20 percent of top MSPs offer managed print services, according to our fifth annual MSPmentor 100 survey, which runs through Dec. 23.
