Masergy Communications, a managed networking and cloud services provider, today acquired Global DataGuard, which offers Unified Enterprise Security (UES)  and Professional Services (PS). The acquisition gives Masergy additional tools that leverage machine learning and expert human intelligence and could help Masergy better address security threats for its customers.

“Cyber attacks are only going to become more intense and sophisticated – it’s a new battlefield. The acquisition of Global DataGuard uniquely positions Masergy to deliver solutions engineered to address these advanced persistent threats,” Masergy CEO Chris MacFarland said in a statement.

Masergy expanded its Security as a Service suite as well. Now, the suite includes Global DataGuard’s UES and PS.

UES supports cloud, hybrid and premise IT environments, and its features include the following:

  • 24/7 security control center monitoring and reporting

  • Adaptive, predictive network behavioral analysis

  • Threat and vulnerability management

  • Security threat intelligence dashboard

  • Event management and security information support

  • Intrusion detection/prevention

  • Managed firewall and intelligent Internet management

PS offers the following:

  • Compliance testing

  • Forensic audits

  • Penetration testing

  • Risk management

  • Security audits

  • Vulnerability assessments

Global DataGuard CEO Scott Paly said that he believes the transaction is a win-win for his company’s customers and employees.

“Masergy’s focus on ongoing innovation and its commitment to delivering a superior client experience is completely consistent with our core operating tenants,” Paly said, according to a press release. “Together, we will accelerate our rate of innovation and service leadership in cyber security.”

Masergy’s managed cloud network supports globally distributed workforces. For example, end-to-end recruitment services provider Decision Toolbox last month chose Masergy’s Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) to help its virtual employees become more productive.

“Our managed cloud network ensures superior, end-to-end QoS (quality of service) while seamlessly integrating into any existing business process,” John Dumbleton, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Masergy, said in a press release. “Decision Toolbox is just one example of how Masergy continually helps organizations become more efficient by leveraging innovative cloud-based solutions.”
