Darren Gill, Vice President of Channels and Sales Development at Interactive Intelligence
Gill: Growing up in Florida, I was fortunate enough to work at a local golf course – with my first job being in the cart barn. Although I wasn’t excited about the heavy blue overalls, being outside was great and the tips weren’t bad either.
The VAR Guy says: You must have had a lot of time to drive around on the golf carts though, which must have been pretty cool. At least we think so.
Gill: I’ve been a car enthusiast for years, starting with a 1987 Jaguar XJS (V12) coupe that I restored. My dream car would depend on the situation (ex: driving in snow vs. on the track), but a Bugatti Veyron works.
The VAR Guy says: A Bugatti would cost you a serious chunk of change, but it would be worth it to go that fast!
Gill: An eco-tour across Costa Rica that included whitewater rafting, hiking the volcano region of Arenal and relaxing on the beaches of the Pacific Coast.
The VAR Guy says: Whoah. That sure beats a few days of lounging on the beaches in the states!
Gill: "Exponential Organizations" by Salim Ismail.
The VAR Guy says: Ismail's book was named as the Frost & Sullivan "Business Book of the Year 2014" for its views on the ways Exponential Organizations are using technology to drive business innovation.
Gill: A new Audi … for my wife.
The VAR Guy says: That was awfully nice of you! Hopefully you get to drive the new car sometimes!
Gill: I’m currently watching the Amazon series "Mad Dogs." It’s quirky, funny and unpredictable.
The VAR Guy says: Amazon has really been hitting it out of the park lately with its original series. Our favorites are "The Man in the High Castle" and "Transparent."
Gill: A politician. No, really. Thankfully, I did not go down that path.
The VAR Guy says: We're glad you decided to become a channel chief instead – that seems like a much more fun job!
Gill: "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy – incredible special effects and a rare case of each film being progressively better.
The VAR Guy says: If you want to have a really fun day, try marathoning the extended cuts of all three movies in a single sitting – it should only take about 12 hours, give or take.
