Jillian Mansolf, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Channel Sales, Xirrus.
Mansolf: My first job was working at Carl’s Junior in Huntington Beach, CA. where I grew up. I’d like to say I did a great job, but when they handed me a tool and asked me to go outside in the rain and scrape the gum off the drive-through, I walked home and never went back.
The VAR Guy says: That does sound pretty bad. It's one thing to be flipping burgers, but an entirely different thing when it comes to scraping up old gum.
Mansolf: I live in the Bay Area, so my dream car would be a Tesla. I hate traffic and getting gas which is a problem the Tesla solves. Right now, I’m loving my Ford Fusion which is kind of like the “sensible” alternative to the Tesla. However, I’m not going to lie, with the money I save on my Fusion I like to drive it to mall on the weekends and stock up on shoes and purses (win/win).
The VAR Guy says: The Bay Area is actually a great place to have a Tesla because of all the recharging stations available – we still have to catch up on that front on the East Coast, though.
Mansolf: I was fortunate this year to take my 14-year-old to Europe for two weeks this summer. We visited Italy, France and Spain. When we ended our trip, my son declared he wanted to go to college in England and live there when he grows up.
The VAR Guy says: That sounds like a very fun and productive trip! It sounds like your son has his sights set on the Ivy League …
Mansolf: If you like spy novels, it would have to be: "The Lion’s Game" or "The Charm School" by Nelson DeMille. Both are amazing, but be careful, he is addicting if you like that genre. The opening chapter of "The Lion" will make you want to read it and not put it down until you understand what happened.
The VAR Guy says: Who can resist a good spy thriller? DeMille has written 19 novels to date, including seven stories about his original character John Corey.
Mansolf: Duty free Chanel at London Heathrow last month. But my splurge items are almost always a purse or a pair of shoes. As mentioned before, I do love nice leather goods.
The VAR Guy says: Ah, the joys of the Duty Free shop. No tax equals more money to spend on fun stuff!
Mansolf: I’m smiling when I say this, because I don’t think I’ve missed an episode of "The People’s Court" in the last decade. I DVR the show every day and power watch it on the weekends. No Rainman jokes, please.
The VAR Guy says: We would never judge a fellow TV enthusiast. No matter what show you follow, all that matters is your love of Television!
Mansolf: I remember my grandfather had a huge book of constellations and I would look at it for hours and hours thinking how much I wanted to be an astronaut, which is ironic because I hate flying and wouldn’t go into space even if Richard Branson himself comp’d me a ticket on a Virgin Galactic space flight.
The VAR Guy says: Don't worry, as much as we would love to go into space, we'd rather they perfect commercial space flight before The VAR Guy is willing to buy his ticket.
Mansolf: I feel like to do this question justice I’d have to pick my favorite move by genre. But if I have to pick just one, I’d have to go with one I’ve watched over and over again: Therefore, "Groundhog Day" or "Four Weddings and a Funeral" win.
The VAR Guy says: It seems you have a penchant for classic Andie MacDowell films!
