Mark Enzweiler, senior vice president of Global Channel Sales and Alliances at Red Hat
Enzweiler: I was a new account sales rep for IBM-GSD in Cincinnati, Ohio, selling System 32, System 34 and 5110s. I still remember the motto from sales school: "Calls = Demos = Sales." It never failed.
The VAR Guy says: It sounds like all that sales experience is a big help in your current job, especially when relating to partner needs. We bet you have a pretty unique perspective from both sides of the aisle, which is a great tactical advantage to have.
Enzweiler: A 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider. I just wish I could fit in one.
The VAR Guy says: We've seen one of these in person, and they sure are tiny. Not only would this be a tough car to find, but it would also be a tight squeeze!
Enzweiler: Holden Beach, North Carolina, with my family. The kids never get bored or tired of going to the beach.
The VAR Guy says: Beach days with the family are always a good time. Plus burying dad in the sand while he tries to tan is an age-old tradition that we hope your family honors!
Enzweiler: "The Ten Commandments of Business Failure," by Don Keough.
The VAR Guy says: Former Coca-Cola executive Don Keough's 10 simple rules for what not to do in business encompass some of his own experiences in the business world as well as important lessons learned from other modern-day business moguls including Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Rupert Murdoch. Lessons include gems such as, "Send Mixed Messages," and "Be Afraid of the Future."
Enzweiler: A pickup truck. I always wanted one but couldn't justify it with all the kids' cars in the driveway. Now, thanks to my son, I can check one more item off my bucket list.
The VAR Guy says: Good choice for a splurge item—the next time you decide to splurge on something big, you know you'll have room on the flatbed to bring it home! Now that's spending with style.
Enzweiler: No specific TV show but pretty much any National Geographic or History Channel program.
The VAR Guy says: National Geographic has some great specials, mostly its nature documentaries, and The History Channel is always good for learning about everything from the weird (aliens at Thanksgiving, anyone?) to historical drama (like the new series "Texas Rising").
Enzweiler: I wanted to be an underwater photographer like Jacques Cousteau. I got all my scuba certification and recorded more than 80 dives but never got behind a camera lens beyond my own personal camera.
The VAR Guy says: That is a super cool job! Not only would you get to see some of the most beautiful ocean life in the world up close, but you also would have photographic evidence for bragging rights.
Enzweiler: Tough question, but I would have to say "It's a Wonderful Life." It reminds us that what's in our heart is most important and is the truest measure of a man.
The VAR Guy says: Absolutely one of the best movies ever made. We can't help but get a tear in our eye at the end when George finally realizes how important he is to everyone in the town. Just thinking about it makes us misty-eyed.
