Michael Sotnick, Vice president of Channels and Alliances at Pure Storage.
Sotnick: I was an “Associate” (code for everything from sales to janitor) at a local home & garden shop outside of Philadelphia where I grew up. Highlight – I got to drive 3 different forklifts!
The VAR Guy says: We've always wanted to drive a forklift! Of course, whether or not we're qualified to drive one is a whole other story …
Sotnick: I’m an avid cyclist, so a Parlee custom road bike with a SRAM RED eTap groupset and a Dura-Ace wheelset, amongst other bits.
The VAR Guy says: Sleek and eco-friendly! A neat choice, for sure.
Sotnick: Vista Verde Ranch in Colorado for a winter trip filled with tons of family time and backcountry skiing!
The VAR Guy says: That sounds lovely! Colorado is definitely one of our favorite skiing locations, aside from Utah.
Sotnick: "Adrift" by Steven Callahan, it is the ultimate reference point for how to think and act ‘when the going gets tough’. It provides a look at the human condition, triumph and the impact of others.
The VAR Guy says: "Adrift" is the amazing true story about how Callahan survived on his small boat after getting lost at sea, and how he eventually made it back home after two and a half months sailing the Atlantic.
Sotnick: My wife and I splurged on a Jura coffee station as an anniversary present to each other for our home. We both love coffee and oh do we love that thing! It’s not quite a hand-made espresso from an old world café, but at the push of a button it’s really quite delicious.
The VAR Guy says: There's nothing like a custom-made expresso to get you up and ready for the day ahead. Money well spent!
Sotnick: "Homeland." Claire Danes’ range as an actress combined with the scary smart writing has me addicted. Not a big TV fan, so I wait until about six to eight weeks into the season and binge watch to catch up as the season comes to a close.
The VAR Guy says: Definitely a great show. We're still behind though, so no spoilers!
Sotnick: I wanted to design prosthetics … looking back it’s hard not to see the influence of the "Six Million Dollar Man" generation. I still read articles about these devices and am fascinated by the advances.
The VAR Guy says: That's a really cool dream job! The field of prothestics has advanced so much in the past few decades that pretty soon you might be able to build your own Six Million Dollar Man!
Sotnick: "Pulp Fiction." If you are a Quentin Tarantino fan, you already know why.
The VAR Guy says: "Pulp Fiction" is one of the best quotable movies around, and probably always will be. Do you know what they call a Big Mac in France?
