Partha Panda, vice president of Strategy and Business Development at Trend Micro.
Panda: A consultant at one of the largest IT consulting companies in India. My primary responsibility was database administration.
The VAR Guy says: It sounds like you got an early start in the IT industry! It's always best to start on your career path right away, instead of spending time working in unrelated fields (unless there's ice cream involved).
Panda: Tesla Model S. How can you not love that car?
The VAR Guy says: It's true, the Tesla Model S really is one of those cars that you have to love. It's got a little something for everyone—sleek lines, high tech and it's economically friendly, to boot.
Panda: My last vacation was with family in the Dominican Republic.
The VAR Guy says: That's a great vacation destination! There's nothing better than crystal clear water to get your mind off the office for a few days.
Panda: There are so many it is hard to pick a few, but I certainly enjoy reading a few books over and over again – "Blue Ocean Strategy," "The Black Swan" (by Nassim Taleb) and "Shantaram," to name a few.
The VAR Guy says: Wow, it sounds like you're a pretty big reader! These three books are different in almost every way, but it's nice to see that you are a lover of many different genres!
Panda: IoT things around my house including a centralized hub, phone-controlled switches/dimmers/bulbs/garage openers, etc.
The VAR Guy says: We like to call this one a "practical splurge"—while it's super fun, it also makes sense as a purchase for someone like yourself in the cybersecurity field. Changing the color of your light bulbs via your phone might not serve any practical purpose, but we have to admit it does look pretty darn cool.
Panda: Nothing specific. I love documentaries and so I'm more of a Netflix buff than a specific television show.
The VAR Guy says: Ah, Netflix. We can say its definitely ruined pre-programmed TV for us as well. Who wants to wait through commercials when you can binge watch an entire season of "Friends" in half the time?
Panda: I wanted to be a train driver.
The VAR Guy says: We imagine this would be a pretty cool job. Sort of like driving a super powerful car, except bigger. Much, much bigger.
Panda: Again, hard to pick any single movie, but I am a big fan of "The Godfather" series for the sheer talent in the movie; the plot, intensity and the many lessons you can learn and connect to the business world. I also love the "Rocky" series for the intensity and for some really cool boxing!
The VAR Guy says: Excellent picks, sir. Both "The Godfather" and "Rocky" are endlessly watchable, and contain enough quotable scenes to keep you occupied for a week. Yo Adrienne!
