Sponsored Video: Apple is now the Number Three PC maker in North America, trailing only Dell and Hewlett-Packard, according to International Data Corp. But as the Macintosh continues to gain momentum in small business, it’s time for VARs to promote better Mac security, according to Trend Micro. In this FastChat video, Trend Micro SMB Marketing Manager TJ Alldridge describes some Mac security risks and potential solutions.First, a little background: At first glance, Macs aren’t really targets for viruses. But look a little closer and you’ll find that “Macs have been known to harbor Windows-based malware… malware which could make its way from the Mac via file sharing on to Windows PCs,” notes the IT Security Expert blog in the UK. Moreover, some small business owners want data loss prevention (DLP) technology to ensure information doesn’t “leak” its way off company systems and onto USB thumb drives that somehow walk out the door.
Still skeptical about the threats? The FastChat Video below from Trend Micro‘s Alldridge covers:
0:00 – Intro and Mac momentum in small business
1:04 – But does the Mac really face security threats?
2:27 – How Trend Micro helps VARs to safeguard Macintoshes in small business
3:25 – Conclusion
Clearly, Trend Micro has positioned Worry-Free Business Security as a cross-platform solution blanketing Windows and Mac. Will more VARs heed Alldridge’s Mac security warning? The VAR Guy will be watching.
