With the release of the 2015 MSPmentor 501 list of the top 501 managed service providers (MSPs) coming on March 26, now's a great time to take a look back at some of the recent news involving last year's top MSPs. Here are 10 news stories from the top MSPs on the 2014 MSPmentor 501. Hosted business communication, collaboration and IT solutions provider Apptix (APP) appointed Joe Cirillo and Peter Walther to lead its product development and product management, respectively, in October. Apptix President Chris Mack commented on the additions of Cirillo and Walther in a prepared statement: "Joe and Peter are uniquely qualified to develop and deploy an expanded portfolio of customizable solutions and managed services available across public, private or hybrid cloud environments." Apptix ranked 10 on the MSPmentor 501.
Boston-based IT solutions and private cloud services provider (CSP) Eze Castle Integration released a new version of its Eze Voice cloud-based voice solution in September. Bob Guilbert, Eze Castle Integration's managing director, said Eze Voice gives businesses "a complete cloud platform that bundles data and voice services for simplified operations." Eze Castle Integration ranked 9 on the MSPmentor 501.
In September, Australian MSP Brennan IT announced plans to spend $30 million to pursue acquisitions and infrastructure investments over the next 12 months. Brennan IT founder Dave Stevens said his company was in position to capitalize on market opportunities: "Market sentiment is the best it has been in a while and with our strong track record of profit and year-on-year growth, we are in the perfect position to pursue growth opportunities." Brennan IT ranked 8 on the MSPmentor 501.
Cloud-enabled data integration and data management solutions provider Liaison Technologies this month announced it secured additional funding from the Global Health Innovation Fund; the most recent funding brought Liaison's total investment from all strategic life sciences and healthcare partners to over $90 million. "This investment will enable Liaison to accelerate innovation on its healthcare platform and support growth through acquisitions," Liaison CEO Bob Renner said in a prepared statement. Liaison ranked 7 on the MSPmentor 501.
IT services provider All Covered acquired the assets of Atlanta's Preferred Networks Corp. in January. Todd Croteau, All Covered's president, said the acquisition gives his company a stronger foothold in Atlanta: "Preferred Networks Corporation has developed an outstanding model of delivering cloud technologies, data backup solutions and managed IT services to its customers in the Atlanta area. The company's mission and services align perfectly with All Covered's commitment to providing unmatched IT services to organizations across all industries." All Covered ranked 6 on the MSPmentor 501.
In October, BAE Systems acquired cloud-based security solutions provider SilverSky in a cash-free, debt-free deal worth $232.5 million. "BAE Systems is a large, multi-national company with a tremendous brand and financial resources," SilverSky CEO Tim Harvey said. "We expect to leverage their presence in the market to grow our business as quickly as possible." SilverSky ranked 5 on the MSPmentor 501.
mindSHIFT Technologies this month launched mindSHIFT Managed Servers in Amazon Web Service (AWS) to help businesses simplify IT management. The Massachusetts-based MSP said its new release enables users "to gain an edge in the cloud" as well. mindSHIFT ranked 4 on the MSPmentor 501.
Hybrid IT solutions company Datapipe added GoGrid, a San Francisco-based infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider, to its portfolio in January. Datapipe Chief Marketing Officer Craig Sowell said the acquisition of GoGrid enables his company to offer customers "the most advanced solutions for implementing and managing big data environments on the cloud." Datapipe ranked 3 on the MSPmentor 501.
New York-based MSP Logicalis purchased Inforsacom, a German IT services and solutions provider, in December. Logicalis Chief Operating Officer Mark Rogers said the acquisition would help Logicalis strengthen its position in the German IT market. Logicalis ranked 2 on the MSPmentor 501.
This month, EarthLink (ELNK) unveiled a Managed Network Service that could help businesses improve their network performance. Rick C. Froehlich, EarthLink's executive vice president of products and consumer, said the new service "gets out in front of any issues to optimize [EarthLink] clients' network performance so that vital applications run at optimal levels, helping them deliver great service to their customers." EarthLink, the top-ranked MSP on the MSPmentor 501, also announced its Managed Security Monitoring Service last month.
