New Box Partner Apps Designed to Support Health Care Cloud Needs

Box is targeting the health care industry with 10 new partner-developed apps. The apps, built on the Box platform, address health care industry-specific information challenges, including the support of HIPAA and HITECH regulatory compliance legislation.

The partner apps fit into four overall categories within the health care industry, including clinical documentation apps from drchrono and Umbie DentalCare; care coordination apps from TigerText, Doximity, Medigram and PostureScreen Mobile; interoperability apps from iMedViewer, iPaxera and Medi-Copy; and an access to care app from HealthTap.

These partners form the foundation of a new Box partner ecosystem of apps for the health care industry. It’s likely these are the first of several more apps that Box will add to the ecosystem to grow its business in the health care industry. If the cloud services provider has as much luck in the health industry has it has had in the education sector, then things will be looking good for both Box and its various partners.

“Hospitals, medical groups and physicians are all facing challenges, including privacy regulations, the migration to electronic health records, and outdated IT infrastructure,” said Whitney Bouck, general manager of enterprise at Box, in a prepared statement. “Box breaks down walls and helps people collaborate to get work done. These new partner apps and security standards will help where it matters most: managing critical information, coordinating care, and driving productivity industry-wide.”

Box has been growing its health care vertical business in the past year, and has added customers such as Henry Ford Health System, Beaumont Health System, HealthTrust Europe, John Hopkins HealthCare Solutions, Wake Forest Baptist Health, San Juan Regional Medical Center and Garden City Hospital. According to Box, its health care vertical sales have increased 81 percent in the past year and there are hundreds of health care customers already using Box.

Health care organizations continue to struggle to comply with both HIPAA and HITECH as they increasingly switch to electronic health record (EHR) technology, both on-premise and in the cloud. With an industry so sensitive to client privacy, paying lip service to security isn’t enough, and the organizations require a solid foothold if they are to maintain compliance.

As they move to cloud applications, they’re looking to cloud services providers and partners to assure security of their patients’ data.
