Ateksoft Upgrades WebCamera Plus Software

Ateksoft Co. has introduced WebCamera Plus version 1.05, the newest edition of its software that turns any PDA or smartphone into a webcam. The latest release includes more languages; provides autostart from desktop capture applications for ActiveSync connections; and has an improved user interface and a reworked webcam driver. WebCamera Plus works with any connection USB ActiveSync, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS, 3G and LAN and functions as a Web camera in programs including Skype, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messager and Virtual Dub. It runs on Windows XP and Vista, as well as Windows Mobile 2003/5.x, and is downloadable for $19.90.

TrackItBack Enables OTA Data Backup

TrackItBack has launched TrackItBackUP, a service that allows smartphone users to manually or automatically back up data over the air. The product is available for B2B sales through dealers. They make 20 percent to 40 percent commission per download, but they must have their managed platforms for providing the software licenses to clients. TrackItBacks flagship product, TrackItBack Lost & Found Recovery Service, locates lost or stolen devices and returns them to owners. Dealers earn 30 percent to 60 percent commissions on that service.

Intermec Unveils Mobile Handheld EV-DO-Capable Computer

Intermec has unveiled its CDMA/EV-DO capable CN3 mobile handheld with EV-DO wireless broadband data transmission capabilities. The device is certified for voice and data transmission on the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. It lets users make calls, send data such as video messages and manage documents. The CN3 comes with integrated GPS and Bluetooth, features 3G WAN and Cisco-compatible Wi-Fi connectivity. It runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack, including Direct Push Technology for wireless e-mail. It further comes with a QWERTY keyboard or an optional numeric keypad.

Axesstel Develops New Modem Series

Axesstel Inc. has introduced the MV100 Series of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A USB Modems. The modem, small enough to carry in a shirt pocket, gives users fixed wireless and mobile access to e-mail, the Internet and multimedia streaming at speeds up to 3.1mbps. The MV100 series modems have a USB for connectivity to voice, text messaging and broadband data from a desktop PC or a laptop. The modems also are backward-compatible to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. 0 and CDMA2000 1X.

AirCard 595U Supports Sprints EV-DO Rev A Network

Sprint Nextel Corp. is selling the new Sierra Wireless AirCard 595U USB modem through its sales channels. The modem provides access to the Sprint Mobile Broadband EV-DO Rev. A Network. The AirCard plugs into a notebook or desktop USB port or through the included docking cradle. It has an internal battery and GPS capability for locate and search functionality. The AirCard 595U supports the Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Bluefire Security Technologies Inc. released the fourth version of Mobile Security Professional Edition. The software secures devices using Microsofts Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, including Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition and Smartphone. Professional Edition offers protection for a lost or stolen device; maintains confidentiality of information on the device such as e-mail, personal banking or address books; and provides device security while accessing the Internet. The platform also provides firewall, intrusion prevention, authentication and encryption.

Jabra Unveils Wireless Headsets

Wireless headset maker Jabra has unveiled the T5300 series for office workers. The Jabra T5330 is for landline phones and the Jabra T5320 is for softphones. The former provides a range of 33 feet from the base station. The latter operates on a Wi-Fi-compatible frequency of 2.4GHz and supports the Bluetooth version 1.2 and hands-free profile. Both headsets offer three different interchangeable wearing styles ear hook, headband and neckband.

Synchronica Integrates Push-IMAP Functionality

Mobility management provider Synchronica plc has integrated Push- IMAP functionality into Mobile Gateway 3.0 (formerly SyncML Gateway). Service providers now can bring Push E-mail always on capability to more mobile devices, perhaps eventually replacing SMS, according to the company. Synchronicas technology is standards-based so more providers can take advantage of it. The technology combines SyncML and Push-IMAP. Synchronicas Mobile Gateway provides Push E-mail and synchronization services for consumers and business users.

AirMagnet Updates Analyzer

AirMagnet Inc. has released the latest version of its wireless security and performance troubleshooting software, Laptop Analyzer 7.0 PRO. In addition to a new user interface for diagnosing WLAN problems, the new edition includes the ability to analyze sources of interference and troubleshoot devices that use the 4.9GHz public safety band. Laptop Analyzer 7.0 also supports virtual access points or basic service set identifiers. Other new features include new compliance reports for FISMA, Basel II, EU-CRD (also known as CAD 3) and ISO 27001, event log customization and roaming control.

Palm Releases Treo Upgrade With New Apps, Form Factor

Palm Inc. has unveiled an upgrade in the Treo 700p device: the Treo 755p for the Sprint Nextel Corp. network. The smartphone is the first Treo to include built-in Microsoft Direct Push Technology for e-mail, and Google Maps for mobile. It also has a new instant messaging application and built-in support for Sprint TV. Its new compact design has an internal antenna and mini-SD memory slot, and comes in two new colors, burgundy and midnight blue. Like the 700p before it, the handset features a 128MB memory, Bluetooth and EV-DO support (but not EV-DO Rev. A), a 1.3-megapixel camera and QWERTY keyboard. It retails for $279 with a two-year contract.
