Fresh out of Clearwater, Fla., distribution giant Tech Data is furthering its “strategic commitment” to Hewlett-Packard and its partners by creating an HP Solutions Division, which includes a single dedicated management team for all sales, marketing and tech support for HP. Read on for the details …
According to Tech Data, HP represents 28 percent of its global net sales, hence the new division. John O’Shea, currently vice president of networking product marketing, will head up the HP Solutions Division, which, according to Tech Data, will be the “premier” single source for all HP solutions including printing, imaging, storage, servers, networking and desktop and data center solutions (maybe HP/Palm products also?).
The new division also will offer enhanced tools, specialized resources and, apparently, easier deployment of the aforementioned solutions. HP resellers also will be able to source HP offerings for all their customers, be they SMB, large enterprise, health care or governmental.
Tech Data also announced it plans to launch a new Networking Product Marketing Division (part of the Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Division) to help resellers and partners better select and configure their hardware software and services across multiple vendors to meet their customers needs.
For VARs and MSPs, working with HP and/or Tech Data, here’s one more reason to go 100 percent HP. The bigger picture here is likely HP’s efforts to focus and proliferate its technologies against the likes of Cisco, as a number of distributors — Tech Data included — have Cisco-centric divisions.
