Oracle's SaaS Revenues Exceed $1 Billion

Oracle Cloud Computing and SaaS

Oracle’s SaaS revenues have pushed beyond $1 billion, and Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) is now the second largest SaaS provider in the world, according to Oracle President Mark Hurd.

Read between the lines and Hurd was talking about CRM and other hosted applications that Oracle offers directly to end-customers. Hurd was not referring to third-party cloud companies — scores of them — that built their SaaS applications atop Oracle’s database and middleware.

Hurd didn’t mention the top SaaS company — likely Salesforce.com — by name. But he suggested NetSuite is the Number 3 SaaS provider. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison was an early investor in NetSuite, and the two companies continue to work closely together.

Hurd’s $1 billion SaaS statement surfaced at Oracle Industry Analyst World, held yesterday and today at Oracle’s Redwood Shores, Calif., headquarters. Hurd said he previously made the $1 billion SaaS statement during an Oracle earnings call or financial briefing.

Hurd touched on cloud computing during today’s discussion, but focused mostly on the need to help CIOs eliminate IT complexity. The IT complexity involves old applications, legacy infrastructure, growing storage, mobility and social media demands, Hurd added.

No surprise, Hurd positioned Oracle engineered systems — hardware and software designed together — as the solution that can eliminate IT complexity.
