Red Hat Prepares Private Cloud Pitch for Wall Street

Red Hat Enterprise Linux already enjoys strong momentum on Wall Street. But now, The VAR Guy hears, Red Hat is preparing to make a private cloud pitch to Wall Street customers and partners on April 19. Here are the detail, and the implications for Red Hat partners.

Red Hat is expected to discuss low latency trading platforms and cloud computing strategies during the HPC (High Performance Computing) Linux Financial Markets conference, scheduled for April 19 in New York. The event is expected to attract 700 experts representing Wall Street IT professionals and consulting firms.

Carl Trieloff, senior consulting software engineer for Red Hat, will participate in a panel discussion about compliance, security and internal controls for private clouds on Wall Street.

The VAR Guy is intrigued. If Red Hat can sell private clouds to Wall Street firms — among the most security-conscious vertical markets — then the open source provider should be able to take its cloud pitch to multiple verticals.

No doubt, Red Hat has momentum on Wall Street. And Red Hat has been polishing its cloud pitch for partners and customers since mid-2009. The company launched its certified cloud partner program in June 2009. More recently, Red Hat has been partnering with  IBM, newScale and Wipro to educate customers on private clouds.

Where do more traditional channel partners fit into the private cloud conversation. The VAR Guy expects some answers to emerge at the HPC Linux Financial Markets conference on April 19. Then, Red Hat will likely reinforce its messaging during the company’s own Red Hat Summit, scheduled for June 22-25 in Boston, Mass.
