Finding the right IT infrastructure management platform isn't a small job, especially when your company is responsible for connecting more than 4,000 companies directly to their customers and partners inside the world’s most networked data centers located in 31 strategic markets across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific. So it was no small thing that Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX), a global interconnection and data center company chose ScienceLogic, Inc's IT infrastructure management platform. We've got the scoop of how this deal happened, plus some advice that ScienceLogic's CEO shared with MSPmentor about factors to consider when selecting an IT infrastructure management platform. But first the Equinix deal.

Equinix Director of Server Operations Steve Upp said his company had several key requirements for an IT infrastructure management platform. Those included single pane of glass monitoring of information assets, visibility into the infrastructure that is tied into alerting and ticket management, and a system that was easy to use. It's a step up from where Equinix was before with its monitoring solutions.

"We previously had monitoring from different solutions that never completely met all of our needs. You can’t operate as a knowledge-aware IT organization without knowing what’s going on throughout your global IT infrastructure. The ScienceLogic platform does all the heavy lifting and really works out-of-the-box, allowing us to be more proactive and service-oriented."

ScienceLogic CEO John Becker provided MSPmentor via email with the following five questions that businesses should ask when selecting an IT infrastructure management platform:

  • Scale and extensibility: Can the platform handle your needs beyond today as your network continues to grow and new technologies and standards are introduced?

  • Data Collection: Does the product have multiple methods of collecting the data you need from any IP addressable device?

  • Multi-tenancy: Does it allow you to create a single service view that allows you to share that view across multiple customers without compromising security/privacy?

  • Dashboards: Can users create multiple dashboards and reports without programing experience?

  • Integration: Does it have a strong restful API to ease integration with your other internal tools?

Back in January, ScienceLogic broke its annual sales record after strong fourth quarter sales. For the quarter sales increased by 69 percent year over year. According to the company, the increase was driven by an expanding customer base (both domestically and internationally).
