Verizon Enterprise Solutions (VZ) will expand its Healthcare Enabled Services to help healthcare providers meet federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for safeguarding electronic protected health information (ePHI).
Verizon Enterprise Solutions (VZ) will expand its Healthcare Enabled Services to help healthcare providers meet federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for safeguarding electronic protected health information (ePHI).
HIPAA regulations were designed to help patients receive medical care without compromising their right to privacy and ensure PHI is secure yet accessible for healthcare providers.
The U.S. Office for Civil Rights enforces three HIPAA rules:
HIPAA Breach Notification Rule that requires healthcare companies to provide details after a breach of unsecured PHI
HIPAA Privacy Rule to protect the privacy of individually identifiable health information
HIPAA Security Rule that sets national standards for the security of ePHI
Verizon will expand its Healthcare Enabled Services to five additional data centers and offer new cloud and data center infrastructure services to support healthcare providers.
The company’s Healthcare Enabled Services include:
Colocation
Enterprise cloud
Intrusion detection protection
Log aggregation
Managed hosting
“The expansion of the Healthcare Enabled Services program demonstrates Verizon’s continuing commitment to provide secure IT infrastructure solutions to our healthcare clients who access and store sensitive patient data,” Rich Black, global vice president of Verizon Enterprise Solutions, said in a prepared statement.
Black also noted healthcare providers can now use Verizon’s Healthcare Enabled Services to manage, store and safeguard ePHI remotely.
“For many healthcare organizations, storing and managing ePHI on their own can be cost-prohibitive. Verizon’s Healthcare Enabled Services allow healthcare organizations to focus on their core competency – delivering care to patients – while letting Verizon focus on providing an end-to-end infrastructure management solution that securely delivers enterprise-class connectivity, availability and reliability,” he said.
