Xerox (XRX) has acquired Smart Data Consulting, a provider of technology consulting and e-discovery services. The acquistion allows Xerox to expand its e-discovery managed services.

“The synergies couldn’t be clearer for our clients,” Smart Data Managing Partner Ed Robles said in a prepared statement. “The company was first established to address the increasing demands of e-discovery, and the key to successful and defensible litigation management is a delicate balance between strategy and technology.”

Viewpoint enables corporate legal departments and law firms to manage the entire e-discovery lifecycle using a single product. Because Viewpoint allows users to manage collection, processing, early case assessment, analytics, assisted review, review and production with a single product, it can make the e-discovery process more efficient and cost-effective, Xerox said in a prepared statement.

“We’re blending key capabilities with market demand with this acquisition,” said Manoj Sharma, Executive Managing Director of Xerox Litigation Services, according to a press release. “Smart Data’s depth of expertise and customer-focused team will be a valuable addition both to Xerox and for our clients choosing to use Viewpoint to manage their e-discovery projects.”

Xerox offers several e-discovery solutions, including fully outsourced services using the OmniX cloud-based review platform, a CategoriX technology-assisted review service and on-premise e-discovery or managed services with Viewpoint. Xerox’s e-discovery technology is supported by 24/7 professional services, consulting expertise and managed review.
