The AWS re:Invent 2014 conference was held in Las Vegas this week.
Amazon (AMZN) Senior Vice President of Web Services Andy Jassy unveiled AppStream, CloudTrail and WorkSpaces services during his re:Invent 2014 keynote address. Jassy also made his keynote theme loud and clear: “The cloud is the new normal,” he told attendees.
AWS announced managed service and software-as-a-service (SaaS) partner programs at re:Invent 2014. Terry Wise, director of AWS’s global partner ecosystem, added his company plans to more than double its AWS Partner Network (APN) investments too.
AWS soon will release a Service Catalog, according to AWS Chief Evangelist Jeff Barr. The AWS Service Catalog “will allow any IT department to deliver AWS-powered services to internal users while maintaining consistency and control” and could help organizations lower their AWS support costs, Barr said.
Boundary launched a monitoring service that provides organizations with details about their AWS resources. The SaaS and cloud application monitoring platform company, led by former Nimsoft CEO Gary Read, also said it would give any customer who signs up for its AWS monitoring service during re:Invent week up to 10 million CloudWatch metrics points per day, free forever.
RackWare this week unveiled the RackWare Management Module (RMM) for AWS, a disaster recovery (DR) and migration solution for AWS. The Milpitas, California-based cloud infrastructure provider said managed service providers (MSPs) will be able to offer RMM for AWS to help customers recover from events that bring an application down or prevent users from accessing their apps.
Public cloud workload management company 2nd Watch unveiled its Cloud Factory services at re:Invent. Cloud Factory is designed to help businesses move their workloads from traditional on-premises data center environments to AWS, and 2nd Watch CEO Doug Schneider said he believes the services “will set a new standard for smoothly migrating business-line workloads to the cloud.”
Sophos this week announced the Sophos Secure OS, a secure server option for AWS customers. Mike Valentine, Sophos’ senior vice president of worldwide sales, noted Sophos Secure OS provides AWS customers with “another powerful layer of defense.”
Trend Micro announced Deep Security for AWS during re:Invent. Deep Security provides automated cloud security on AWS, and Trend Micro Vice President of Cloud & Emerging Technologies Mark Nunnikhoven added Deep Security features “a user-friendly implementation” that can help users quickly improve their cloud security.
Evident.io launched a new version of its AWS security platform at re:Invent. Tim Prendergast, Evident’s CEO, said the most recent release provides continuous monitoring for AWS accounts.
The new Accenture Enterprise Application Migration Service for the AWS Cloud, which was unveiled at re:Invent, is designed to help users determine which applications they should migrate to the cloud. Jack Sepple, Accenture’s senior managing director of cloud and infrastructure services, added he believes the new service enables users to save both time and resources.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted re:Invent 2014 in Las Vegas this week. re:Invent is a a learning conference that offers attendees three days of technical content so they can better manage the AWS platform. As more managed service providers (MSPs) ride the rails of infrastructure-as-a-service providers, building their own services on top, this conference has become more important than ever.
The conference featured bootcamps, hands-on labs and even a Hackathon. But of course, re:Invent wouldn’t be complete without breaking news from some of the biggest names in managed services.
