Certes Networks is looking to increase its momentum through a compelling offering. For $1,000, Certes is offering its Network Encryption Starter Kit, specifically designed for “tunnel-less multilayer encryption” without a hefty price tag. Does this have channel implications? You bet. Here’s the scoop …

The impetus behind the encryption starter package was summarized best by Thomas Gill, CEO of Certes Networks:

“… network and security professionals … use corporate credit cards to expedite the ordering process for items below a certain cost threshold, [thus] we created an e-commerce portal where customers can order the starter kits online for proof of concepts or small encryption deployments.”

That $1,000 package contains the TrustNet Manager software in addition two 3Mbps encryption appliances that, if desired, are upgradable to meet bandwidth demands up to 10Gbps. Brilliant. So where does the channel fit it? I reached out to Certes Networks PR to find out of this package deal was available to its partners and resellers. The official response?

“The starter kit is a direct sale only. [Certes’ plan] is to get customers using it. … Once they have a good proof of concept they can expand through our partners.”

So Certes’ partners may want to introduce potential customers to the $1,000 entry kit, and remind them to check back in if they need encryption upgrades or a full-blown deployment. If you’re a VAR interested in adopting encryption technology, check out Certe’s partner page.
