Storage and data protection specialist FalconStor has updated its RecoverTrac automation tool. It features enhancements such as rapid recovery in mixed environments, failover and failback between dissimilar hardware, and non-disruptive disaster recovery testing. So will channel partners plug in?

The RecoveryTrac technology, which the company positions as service-oriented, automated disaster recovery for all of a client’s data, is integrated into FalconStor’s Continuous Data Protector (CDP) and Network Storage Server (NSS) products.

What is most important to IT administrators tasked with managing and protecting mixed IT environments consisting of physical and virtual equipment sourced from a variety of vendors? Ask FalconStor and the answer is peace of mind, which, in this case, translates to data protection technology optimized for heterogenous data centers.

“Every minute companies focus on recovering data and critical IT services is time lost running the business,” said Darrell Riddle, FalconStor senior director, product marketing. “By automatically recovering multiple services and systems, or even an entire site, in minutes rather than hours or days, RecoverTrac 2.5 gives IT administrators something they aren’t getting enough of – sleep.”

Key RecoverTrac 2.5 includes:

  • The ability to recover multiple machines simultaneously returns organizations to full productivity in minutes.

  • Integration with VMware and Hyper-V and support for hardware templates enables failover and failback between any combination of physical and virtual servers and between dissimilar hardware.

  • VMware vSphere 5 and VMware cluster support enables load balancing and high-availability configurations.

  • Automated push-button DR rehearsal allows IT managers to test and refine recovery processes on a regular basis without disrupting business operations.

Channel Opportunities

FalconStor’s RecoverTrac is suitable for channel partners building business continuity systems, such as Hudson Technology, a Toronto, Canada-based solutions provider that uses the technology to set up, automate and test its disaster recovery systems.

“As a provider of business continuity services to many different customers, we need a flexible, automated disaster recovery system that will work with any physical or virtual environment,” said Shawn Mears, Hudson senior architect.
