The VAR Guy already pointed out that cloud was barely present at ADTRAN Connect 2010. So The VAR Guy got 15 minutes with ADTRAN’s VP of Global Marketing Gary Bolton and asked him to expand a little on where he sees the cloud as it pertains to ADTRAN’s strategy. Here’s what he said:
According to Bolton, “integrating tightly” (with existing infrastructure, devices, etc.) is what ADTRAN has done, and will continue to do, as the cloud becomes more proliferated. “We’re the gear for the cloud,” Bolton said. “[The] sweet spot.”
But Bolton also made sure to note that clouds don’t sprout up overnight, and so ADTRAN will continue to develop united business solutions focused around the question, ‘How does this apply to hosted solutions?’ when it moves forward with products.
He also echoed the sentiments of other ADTRAN executives that the company is deeply focused on enabling its resellers, even going so far to say that his parents (yes, The VAR Guy double-checked) are ADTRAN VARs. (Our resident blogger doesn’t think ADTRAN — or Bolton — could ask for more intimate feedback.)
Bottom line? The VAR Guy thinks ADTRAN will find its technology floating around the cloud and in the enterprise as needed. The Cloud, for ADTRAN, is not so much a destination as it is just another thing its technology can help augment.
