The main draw during Day Two of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Global Partner Conference (GPC) in Las Vegas this week was the new look HP has given to Vertica — a subsidiary of HP Software that provides real-time business analytics. Vertica is a major component of HP’s larger IT services suite.

Vertica’s platform is called the Vertica Analytics Platform. It’s designed to structure large amounts of data as quickly as possible in such a way that, according to HP, is easy to analyze and draw critical data from. So what’s new to the platform? Among other things included in version 5.1 of the software, HP has added a new graphical user interface to make data even easier to read and has improved third-party drivers and access protocols.

So business customers using version 5.1 of the Vertica Analytics Platform can set up Vertica clusters, add nodes and monitor their network performance. Moreover, they can run the newest version from a browser and more easily drag and drop different icons into their appropriate locations in order to better organize their user interface.

Vertica – Autonomy Combo

HP acquired both Vertica and Autonomy — another analytics performance solution provider — in 2011 as part of its effort to help enterprise companies make sense of the huge amounts of structured and unstructured data on their business networks.

During Day One of the HP GPC, HP Software Director of Americas Channel Marketing Matt Smith specifically referred to HP’s Autonomy acquisition as one that “filled a major hole in the HP offering.” Together, the Vertica and Autonomy solutions make up what HP calls the “HP Next Generation Information Platform” for analyzing structured and unstructured data. This most recent update to the HP Next Generation Information Platform, along with HP’s development around its Discovery and Dependency Mapping solution, aims to help IT departments and IT service providers better analyze their critical data and more closely monitor the health of their enterprise networks.
