Luis Giraldo, IT Glue’s vice president of strategy, welcomed attendees to the conference. IT Glue’s platform allows MSPs to centrally document applications, devices, passwords and other IT assets.
IT Glue general manager Nadir Merchant stressed the importance of security and automation. IT Glue announced several deals designed to help MSPs improve their security as a service (SECaaS) offering, and to facilitate the automation of network management.
Kaseya acquired IT Glue late last year. Jim Lippie, Kaseya‘s general manager and senior vice president of partner development, said sales and marketing is one of MSPs’ biggest pain points. In response, Kaseya assists them with this in numerous ways, such as Powered Services, which helps MSPs to understand how to take Kaseya’s products and services to market, he said.
Kaseya also acquired ID Agent, a threat intelligence and identity monitoring provider, to beef up its IT security management solution by combining user protection and infrastructure protection into a single security suite.
During GlueX, Barracuda MSP announced the first major update to Managed Workplace since it acquired the solution earlier this year. The new features and functionality allow partners to manage third-party patches, updates and monitor backup activity for their customers.
David Robinson, Lego innovation and technology management professor, talked about the keys to true innovation, and outlined Lego’s journey from the brink of bankruptcy, to becoming the most profitable and fastest-growing company in the toy industry.
Webroot, which Carbonite acquired earlier this year, demonstrated how it’s helping MSPs to close cybersecurity gaps. The acquisition will combine Carbonite’s backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions with Webroot’s machine-learning capabilities to address endpoint vulnerability.
Michael DePalma, Datto’s channel development manager, told attendees nearly 100% of MSPs polled said this is a great market to be in now. Successful MSPs are earning more money through monthly recurring revenue (MRR), he said. Also, more than half of MSPs polled said they have one to 1,000 clients, he said.
Ryan Walsh, Pax8’s chief channel officer, outlined the keys for MSPs to reach $1 billion in valuation, including: focusing on specialization; playing to your strengths; implementing training; building the right team; standardizing your technology stack; and digitizing your business. Cloud services also is a major revenue driver, he said.
Kris Blackmon, senior editor of Channel Partners/Channel Futures, moderated a panel addressing XaaS and the future of IT. Panelists included (left to right) Juan Fernandez, vice president of managed IT services at ImageNet Consulting; Nicole Mead, business development manager at GreatAmerica Financial Services; Ted Roller, channel chief at ChannelForce; and Jay McCall, co-founder of XaaS Journal. The panel covered all the issues surrounding spinning up a XaaS practice.

More than 500 MSPs and other customers braved the heat in Scottsdale, Arizona, for this week’s GlueX, IT Glue’s third annual user conference.
This year’s event featured an expanded program, increased attendance and a larger group of vendors.
“GlueX is all about bringing our community together to celebrate, engage and educate for two full days, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be back in Phoenix to do just that once again,” said Nadir Merchant, IT Glue’s newly appointed general manager. “Having watched our partner base grow from 0 to over 7,000 in five short years has been a phenomenal ride, and we look forward to continuing to improve MSP operations around the globe with more advanced features and functionality in the months and years ahead.”
During the conference, IT Glue announced the first of several new password-related features, one being Password Folders, providing improved organization of passwords for MSPs. The first phase of an integration with QuickPass also was announced, allowing MSPs to automatically update active directory passwords and record them in IT Glue.
In addition, IT Glue revealed a new Dark Mode interface, which was one of the most highly requested features by its partner base. Dark Mode will go live on Oct. 1.
