Dell
Technologies kicked off its annual customer and partner conference celebrating
a successful 2019 fiscal year, and looked to the future as a more mature, publicly traded
company, more closely aligned with VMware. Dell CEO and chairman, Michael Dell,
talked about the company’s strategy to provide infrastructure offers from the edge to the core to the cloud.
Talking about the cloud, the company heads off to the hybrid cloud with VMware and Azure.
In the
opening keynote at the Global Partner Summit, Joyce Mullen, president, channel sales at Dell Technologies, outlined her three
strategic partner imperatives: making it easier to do business with Dell,
solutions, and performance. The “defying gravity” theme represents Dell beating Wall Street’s expectations for revenue in its most recent fiscal year, with partners playing a big role in that.
In the North America Partner Breakout, hosted by Dell EMC’s Gregg Ambulous, senior vice president, North America channel sales, partners learned about the 2020 NA Channel priorities: Accelerate the channel; accelerate storage growth; get the Data Protection Suite back to growth; protect the base and take share; and collaborate and accelerate account penetration.
The aisles
of the exhibition hall were crowded with more than 300 sponsors and exhibitors
having demos and conversations with partners and customers. Big Switch, Unisys
and CenturyLink all made announcements at the event.
Dell
Technologies gives back in many ways. On the expo floor at Dell Technologies
World, there was a STEM initiative, where attendees bag Wiggle-Bot Kits. The
goal: to have 2,000 kits put together to be donated to the Girl Scouts of
Southern Nevada and inspire a workforce in STEM.
Seats at the technical hands-on lab zone were filled all
day long. Activities varied from self-paced labs – 30-60 minute virtual labs
that cover the breadth and depth of Dell Technologies product and solution
portfolio – walkthrough demos; and a Meet the Experts area.
In the expo Llunge, attendees relax and listen to a Q&A
on how the Vatican uses Dell EMC storage for its Apostolic library. The project to preserve and record more than 80,000 manuscripts began in 2012.
Very cool car. Dell Technologies is an official technology
partner of the McLaren Group and McLaren Formula 1 team. The vendor’s hardware
and software solutions are used across the McLaren Group companies, McLaren
Racing and McLaren Applied Technologies.
In
addition to recognizing Dell Partner of the Year Award Winners – there were 10
North America ecosystem partners recognized, among all global winners – Dell
Technologies also recognized President’s Circle Award Winners. These partners
are considered to be an elite subset of partners who “proved their success to
be limitless.” The North America winners include: CDW, SHI, Ahead, Ergonomic
Group, EcoStor Technologies, Soroc Technology, Kelser Group, Technology Group
Solutions, Vicom Computer Services and Scalar Decisions.

It was the biggest Dell Technologies World/Global Partner Summit on record, with more than 15,000 attendees convening in Las Vegas, April 29-May 2.
The last fiscal year was a spectacular year for the company. Dell brought in $91.3 billion in revenue, more than half of which was driven by partners. Announcements were plentiful — two key partners are VMware and Microsoft. Since Dell went public at the end of last year, the companies are closer than ever.
Some news highlights: a redesigned Latitude portfolio, Dell Technologies Unified Workspace, new storage, data management and data protection solutions, and new cloud solutions, to name several. For partners, the company announced new opportunities across its family of businesses.
In addition to general and guru sessions, the conference program included the Global Partner Summit, OEM Summit, Mainframe Summit and certifications. There was also a Women in Technology luncheon and Intel Scavenger Hunt.
The expo lounge supported a customer briefing center, energy zone, hands-on labs, partner lounge and meeting area, and Solutions Expo Hall.
