Startup Davra’s RuBan Platform Lets VARs Collect, Decipher IoT Data

Startup Davra Networks has emerged from stealth mode with a new platform aimed at VARs and system integrators trying to make sense for their customers of the avalanche of data emanating from connected devices and objects, commonly known as the Internet of Things (IoT).

Davra said its RuBan platform collects data from sensors and presents it in a usable format as business intelligence accessible from the desktop. The vendor uses “fog computing,” the Cisco Systems (CSCO)-coined term for its industrial-strength routers storing data temporarily, which enables gathering, filtering and managing data near its source, then moving relevant IoT information to the cloud, ultimately to glean actionable business insights. Officials said RuBan’s plug-and-play technology requires no customization or training to use.

The company wants to interest network VARS and system integrators that recognize the huge potential of the IoT market to build services on the RuBan platform.

“Our customers are using the RuBan platform to turn IoT raw data into usable everyday solutions that are as visual and easy to use as your smartphone,” said Paul Glynn, Davra chief executive.

“We work with our partners to do all the heavy lifting and installing of Cisco IoS Integrated Services routers and sensors on location, then we manage information coming from the IoT environment as well as information from the network itself,” he said. “We make sure to bring only the relevant raw data back to the customer cloud by utilizing fog computing. Our flexible solution can be used as easily in vehicle tracking or water meter usage as it can in smart cities and farms.”

Data generated from the RuBan platform can be presented in a visual GUI format, provided to third-party app developers or used with data consumption tools such as ERP systems, CRM and predictive analysis resources.

Early customers include system integrator SoftChoice, the City of Toronto and University of Alabama.

The Dublin, Ireland headquartered Davra was founded in 2011 and maintains U.S. offices in California and New Jersey in addition to locations in Australia, Germany and the United Kingdom.
