Symantec Vision 2013: Three Things I’ll Be Asking
Symantec kicked off its annual user and technical conference, Vision 2013, held April 15-18 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. Here's a preview of what I'll be looking for at the event.

Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC) kicked off its annual Vision user and technical conference April 15, 2013, in Las Vegas (surprise!), but today things really get going. I’ll be covering the high points of the event, and you can be sure I’ll be looking for that ever-important channel angle.
So before I don my walking shoes (do you think anyone would care if I wore my sneakers?) and head out to meet the day, here are three questions I’ll be asking:
What’s Symantec 4.0 and why should the channel care? The theme of Vision 2013 is Symantec 4.0, which the company says is “the innovative, forward-looking new strategy that’s driving every Symantec solution, initiative and partnership.” Cool. But where does the channel fit in? And while I’m asking …
Where’s the channel at Vision 2013? I couldn’t get a meeting with Symantec channel chief John Eldh (I got a message from Symantec PR saying he wouldn’t be in Vegas long enough to accommodate media interviews/meetings). One of the reasons why we come to these events is to have a chance to sit down and chat with the channel chief. When he’s not here, that’s a little more difficult to do. So I guess I’ll have to ask …
How are Symantec’s cloud and mobility efforts doing? I’m guessing this is part of Symantec 4.0, so it may be a moot question. But since I can’t really talk channel with Symantec, I gotta talk technology.
During the event I’ve got meetings lined up with John Belle, senior director of Commercials and SMB, and Brian Duckering, senior manager of Enterprise Mobility. I’m sure we’ll have some really interesting conversations. I’m also scheduled to meet up with Wade Wyant, president of Symantec solution provider ITS, so there’s at least one channel conversation I’ll be having.
