VMware (VMW) hosted its VMworld 2013 in San. Francisco, Calif. this week, making several announcement during both general sessions. In addition to these announcements, vendors participating in VMworld’s Solutions exchange also launched solutions at the event. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is exhibiting its latest virtualization products and solutions at VMworld 2013. Samsung will be showcasing a number of virtualization products for the first time in the U.S. at VMworld, booth #1729, from August 25-29. These include the new NB-NH Cloud Stand, the all-new 21.5” NC221 and the rest of Samsung’s 2013 NC Series zero client line-up of cloud displays, equipped with the new 2nd generation Teradici chipset (Tera2) processor for lower energy costs and greater power efficiency.
Unitrends announced the availability of Unitrends Enterprise Backup Free Edition for the unlicensed (free) version of VMware vSphere Hypervisor. With this addition to its product portfolio, Unitrends can offer a free, automated, backup and recovery solution for both the licensed and unlicensed versions of VMware vSphere Hypervisor. This solution also enables VMware to compete with Microsoft in the SMB market.
HyTrust Inc., a cloud automation company, announced Series C oversubscribed financing in the amount of $18.5 million from new investors Intel Capital and Fortinet as well as recent investors VMware and In-Q-Tel. Previous investors Granite Ventures, Cisco, Trident Capital and Epic Ventures also participated in this round. The new funding will support the company’s rapid growth and operations, particularly in the areas of sales and marketing, and enable continued development on the cloud security platform as well as innovations in important technological areas such as role-based monitoring (RBM).
RiverMeadow Software Inc., developer of automated server migration solution developed specifically for carrier and service provider clouds, will be sponsoring free server migrations into VMware vCloud Hybrid Service, using the RiverMeadow Cloud Migration SaaS portal, at VMworld 2013.
Racemi, a provider of server migration software that automates the process of migrating workloads to public clouds, announced that it has completed validation of VMware vCloud Hybrid Service, enabling the migration of heterogeneous workloads to vCloud Hybrid Service.
PHD Virtual Technologies, a virtual backup and disaster recovery assurance solutions company, announced the availability of several new products, including PHD Virtual Backup 6.5, which now provides recovery for Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SharePoint. In addition, new ReliableDR 3.2 now gives companies unprecedented integration of traditionally separate backup and disaster recovery processes by automating failover and recovery verification with PHD Virtual Backup.
Net Optics, Inc., the a provider of total application and network security solutions, announced the general availability of Phantom Virtualization Tap Version 3.0 for ESXi 5.x and Phantom HD Version 3.0.
Lenovo announced a comprehensive architecture design to help small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) implement a private cloud environment. Lenovo supports EMC’s VSPEX program, which specifies EMC-validated technology – including Lenovo ThinkServers – to assemble a virtualization solution to meet the IT challenges SMBs often face, such as mitigating costs associated with supporting IT infrastructure and accelerating IT service delivery.
Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced that it has expanded its partnership with VMware to deliver a broad range of solutions for unifying virtual and physical networks within a virtualized data center environment. These solutions, which will include VMware NSX L2 Gateway integration and VXLAN routing capabilities across access, aggregation, core and edge tiers of the data center network, will offer enterprise customers seamless management of workflows across virtualized and non-virtualized systems.
Acronis announced the release of Acronis Backup & Recovery for vCloud, enabling enterprises of various size and service providers to complement VMware vCloud Director with self-service backup and recovery. It allows tenants and administrators to eliminate downtime and protect their virtual machines in public, private and hybrid clouds. Using Acronis’ innovative technology, service providers can now build a complete infrastructure as a service offering using vCloud.
Xceedium, Inc., a provider of privileged identity management for hybrid-cloud environments, announced it is extending Xsuite’s security and audit capabilities to VMware vShield and vCloud.
NetApp announced new integrations with VMware solutions and NetApp clustered Data ONTAP software to enable migration of data for hundreds of virtual machines at a time.
Catbird announced support for VMware NSX, the platform for network virtualization, will be provided by Catbird vSecurity later this year.
AppZero announced the AppZero Service Provider edition for AWS (AppZero SP/AWS). AppZero’s migration tool now enables system integrators and IT operations pros to move server applications onto Amazon AWS.
