VMware (VMW) at VMworld Partner Day 2013 named Andy Banks as its new VP of global distribution.  Channel Chief Dave O'Callaghan announced the hiring. Banks is a Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Comstor veteran with extensive channel and distribution experience.

In Banks' new role, he will assist the company with simplifying VMware's partner programs by applying consistency, predictability and profitability — although the specifics of his role have not been made available, yet.

While Banks was not available for comment, we can safely assume that he will be doing a lot of listening in the first few months of his new position.

Banks will step into his role immediately today (Aug. 26).

O'Callaghan stated that more than 1,000 partners were in the jam packed room for the general partner session.

Stay tuned for more on Banks' background …
