More than 300 million people use Dropbox to share and store documents, photos and videos. The file sync and share service went down on Jan. 10, but Dropbox officials got the service back up and running within three hours.
A Gmail outage took place on Jan. 24. While the outage lasted less than an hour, the incident raised questions about Google‘s (GOOG’s) ability to handle cloud outages.

Hybrid Internet hosting solutions company Internap (INAP) suffered a data center outage on May 16. At least 20 Internap customers lost service due to the outage, including streaming video platform Livestream.
Cloud services provider (CSP) Joyent‘s East Coast data center shut down on May 27. The company said the minimum downtime for customer instances was 20 minutes, and the maximum was 149 minutes.
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack against Evernote servers on June 10 left many Evernote users in the dark. The Evernote outage lasted at least 10 hours.

Even Microsoft (MSFT) is susceptible to cloud outages. The multinational technology giant this week suffered an Azure Storage services outage that lasted roughly 11 hours.
Microsoft Corporate Vice President Jason Zander has apologized to Azure Storage customers for the outage and pointed out that his company is investigating the incident.
“When we have an incident like this, our main focus is rapid time to recovery for our customers, but we also work to closely examine what went wrong and ensure it never happens again,” Zander wrote in a blog post.
While the Azure Storage outage interrupted services across the United States, Europe and parts of Asia, it is merely one of several cloud outages that have affected cloud users worldwide this year.
