5 Key Takeaways from Intel Security Cloud Study
Intel surveyed 1,200 IT decision-makers across 8 countries that are responsible for cloud security in their organizations.
Over the next 12 to 18 months, the majority of enterprise IT budgets will be spent on public cloud resources, according to a new study by Intel Security.
According to the report, one in five respondents say their main concern around SaaS is data security incidents. Data breaches are also the top concern for IaaS and private cloud.
Twenty-three percent of enterprises said they experienced data loss or breaches with their cloud service providers. One in five had someone gain unauthorized access to data or services.
Eighty-one percent of organizations are planning on investing in Infrastructure as a Service over the next year, while 60 percent plan to invest in Software as a Service solutions.
According to the survey, SaaS investment falls behind both investment in Security as a Service (79 percent) and investment in Platform as a Service (69 percent).
According to the report, organizations are using an average of 43 cloud services, however there are significant regional variations.
In the UK, for example, the average organization only uses 29 cloud services, while Brazilian enterprises have an average of 55 cloud services.
Private cloud is the most popular cloud deployment (51 percent), but it's not immune from security risks. According to 33 percent of survey respondents, malware and botnets are the top issue for private cloud deployments, while DDoS attacks are the main threat for public clouds (36 percent).
Public cloud makes up 30 percent, and hybrid cloud accounts for 19 percent of enterprise cloud deployments.

Less than one-third of respondents (32 percent) feel that senior management in their organizations fully understands the implications of storing sensitive data in the cloud. One in five says C-level executives have no idea or only partly understand the risks.
