Many small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are targeting cloud or hybrid business continuity strategies, according to a survey from BDR solutions provider Carbonite (CARB) and market intelligence firm International Data Corp (IDC). The survey, released in April, showed that 65 percent of SMBs leverage on-premise data backup. However, the survey also revealed that SMBs are increasingly turning to cloud or hybrid solutions to achieve business continuity, which could drive growth in the backup-as-a-service (BaaS) and recovery-as-a-service (RaaS) segments.
In February, NetApp (NTAP) released three editions of its SteelStore (now AltaVault) BDR software that can be installed as an Amazon Machine Image. NetApp said the new offerings "improve data backup and recovery times and give customers more control over how, when and where they store their data throughout its lifecycle."
Managed service providers (MSPs) and value-added resellers (VARs) can now use eFolder to add off-site BDR services to any Veeam Software deployment. eFolder in April launched eFolder BDR for Veeam, a solution that provides verified virtual machine (VM) backups in the cloud. According to eFolder, channel partners that deploy eFolder BDR for Veeam have multiple ways to recover VMs in the event of an outage or site-wide disaster.
In January, Asigra updated its Hybrid Partner Training and Certification Program to help MSPs lower their operating costs and better support their customers. The Toronto-based cloud BDR solutions provider said its technical training enhancements are part of a certification program that is designed to teach service providers and their customers about its products.
Intronis in March announced the Winter Release '15 of its Intronis ECHOplatform data protection platform. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts-based cloud BDR solutions provider said its new release is designed to help channel partners better support more complex cloud, virtualized and physical IT environments.
LogicNow last month started offering per-device pricing for both servers and workstations for its MAX Backup BDR solution. The change enables MSPs to know their margins when quoting new business, the company said.
Datto last month introduced a "born in the cloud" router that provides 4G failover and gives service technicians the ability to troubleshoot a failed Internet connection remotely. "The router is the single most important thing that sits between you and the Internet. It effectively defines your experience of the cloud," Datto CEO Austin McChord told MSPmentor.
