In June, ProfitBricks launched the ProfitBricks Docker platform. The infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider also offered access to 2,500 CPU core hours for free as part of an early access preview program.
Joyent unveiled its Triton Elastic Container Infrastructure cloud service for Docker containers in March. The San Francisco-based CSP said the service is designed to "radically simplify container deployments in production at scale while delivering enterprise-grade security, software-defined networking and bare metal performance."
Engine Yard in June released an Amazon Web Services (AWS) instance of its Docker-based platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environment. The cloud orchestration platform provider noted that the AWS implementation is based on Deis PRO.
Docker in January added three leadership positions to its open-source container project. These new roles – prompted by company growth – included chief architect, chief maintainer and chief operator.
In March, Docker acquired SocketPlane to bring new networking application programming interfaces (APIs) to its platform. Docker said the SocketPlane acquisition would help the company "complete a rich set of networking APIs that addresses the needs of application developers and network and system administrators alike."
Following the SocketPlane acquisition, Docker in March added Kitematic to its portfolio. "Kitematic aligns with our strategy to identify both teams and companies that have exhibited leadership in the ecosystem and are committed to expanding tooling for developers and sysadmins," Docker Director of Product Management Justen Stepka said.
In February, Docker released three orchestration tools to help developers and system administrators create Dockerized apps. The new tools included Compose, Machine and Swarm.
